Gerald is born on New Years Eve. The doctor who delivers him, inebriated from the New Years Eve party he was called away from accidently drops baby Gerald just moments after birth. 30 years later Gerald has grown up a bit slow. He lives at home with his mother in a mobile home park and works at the local bowling alley. One night while playing poker with her friends Geralds mother unexpectedly dies. As a way to cope with his loss, Gerald decides to have his mother cremated and her ashes put into her favourite ceramic doll, which Gerald begins to carry with him everywhere. When the doll is stolen because it turns out to be very valuable, Gerald takes it upon himself to find his mother. He puts up fliers and holds a fundraiser (in which we discover that Gerald is a bowling connoisseur), all to no avail. With the help of Mothers eclectic mobile home park friends and his best friend Helen, Gerald embarks on an adventure to get Mother back and in doing so learns a valuable lesson about life, love and friendship.
