Product Details:

Based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Slovo, Red Dust is an intense drama set during South Africas Truth and Reconciliation hearings and its decisive struggle to heal the wounds of apartheid atrocities. The films thrilling narrative follows African National Congress Member of Parliament Alex Mpondo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and human rights lawyer Sarah Barcant (Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank) who find their lives changed forever by a hearing in the small town of Smitsriver. At the centre of this graceful film lies the case of Dirk Henricks (Jamie Bartlett), who is seeking amnesty for acts of torture he committed as a police officer under the apartheid regime. Alex, once part of an illegal anti-apartheid movement, was one of Dirks victims. Due to the severe abuse he endured while in Henrickss hands, Alexs memory of the brutality is foggy, so he is unable to remember whether he denounced his friend and comrade Steve Sizela, who was in custody at the same time. Now living in New York, Sarah returns home to Smitsriver to investigate Dirks crimes and to represent Steve who has been missing since the abuses occurred at the invitation of her former teacher, the activist Ben Hoffman (Marius Weyers). Meanwhile, fearful of being implicated by Henrickss testimony, his former supervisor, Piet Muller (Ian Roberts), surveys the proceedings with keen interest.
