Born in 1872 in Zanesville, Ohio, Zane Grey, who originally wanted to be a professional baseball player, discovered the wonders of frontier America and became one of the most prolific and best loved western authors of all time. His novels, set against the backdrop of big sky country, were full of rugged individuals who embodied the proud spirit and noble virtues of the old west. (The Light of Western Stars) A friend of Dick Bailey?s is killed by a mysterious assailant, whom Dick suspects to be Stack, who is in league with the crooked sheriff. Out on a spree Dick swears he will marry the first woman he sees, who happens to be Ruth Hammond, sister of his dead friend, arriving to take charge of the Hammond ranch. Revolted by his rough proposal, she fires him as the Hammond foreman and she proceeds to the ranch. Stack informs her he has purchased the ranch for the payment of the due back-taxes, and she relents and rehires Dick and his friends to aid her in her fight against Stack. (Fighting Caravans) Gary Cooper is a young frontier scout who helps guide a freight wagon train across the country, with Lili Dimita posing as his wife. Cooper fights off Indians and evil traders, while his two crusty companions try and save him from falling in love.
