| It’s open season on Earth! In the streets of Los Angeles, the lords of the night conduct their evil business, until in a darkened alleyway a blinding flash of light appears from the heavens. An otherworldly being, deadly, with preternatural power and speed steps from the shadows . . . brutally murdering a group of gang members. It then retreats into an abandoned building complex, embalming their severed heads as trophies. A sputtering van full of high school students exits onto an empty side street, stalling in the downtown metropolis. Miss March (Stella Stevens) their teacher, is concerned that the van has suddenly broken down in such a dangerous part of the city. They enter the abandoned complex in hopes of finding some assistance. A gracious gentleman, Reicher (Roddy McDowell), welcomes them. He is blind and wears all black, except for a red amulet around his neck, which is identical to the one worn by the Alien that killed the gang members. Stumbling onto the Alien’s lair, the students find his “trophy” collection and realise that their host plans to add their heads as well. They try to escape but an electronic force field surrounds as two-block radius. As Reicher metamorphoses from his human form to a grotesque Alien being, a deadly game of cat and mouse beings with the Alien close on the students’ trail. The students fight in a valiant series of intense battles. In a dramatic climax, one of the students manages to rip the power amulet from the Alien’s neck and impale it with a pick axe. The Alien falls to its knees – yellow fluid squirting from its skull. The Alien tries to fight back, even in death, as one of the remaining students grabs the Alien’s weapon and fires . . . sending it from whence it came. |
